Signing Day Impact Steve Miller

Ohio State was extremely fortunate to land two of the top defensive end prospects in the Midwest in Kenny Hayes and Steve MiIller in the 2011 recruiting class. Miller, a five-star recruit, has faxed his letter of intent to Ohio State.

Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Heacock had to be all smiles when the first two commitments to the 2011 Buckeye recruiting class were bookend defensive ends Ken Hayes and Steve Miller, neither of whom were a surprise to recruitniks.

The five-star Miller is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound, athletic marvel out of Canton McKinley, and a player that started turning heads the first game of his sophomore season, and continued through his Under Armour performance last month.

Miller was a two-time all-Ohio selection for the Bulldogs, and a player that never considered any other program but Ohio State. Like Hayes, Miller didn't wait too long accepting the Ohio State offer, committing in the middle of his junior season.

BREAKDOWN:

Why not let Canton McKinley head coach Ron Johnson describe the player that has started for him for three years? Johnson had this to say about Miller:

How do you see Miller as a player for Ohio State? "In two or three years, I see him still being an edge player, in a nine-technique or five-technique. He will probably play at 255-265-pounds in college, and still have the ability to run and change direction. He has great, thin hips for an edge player, and that's an offensive lineman's nightmare. I'm not sure if Ohio State will need him to play early or not, but I think he has the physical ability and the mental toughness to be a factor as a true freshman. Coach (Jim) Heacock will love him because he's going to listen and respond to every bit of coaching you give him. I coached at the college level, so sometimes a true freshmen will show up thinking he's going to tear up the college game because of his talent. Steve Miller will show up to Ohio State looking for coaching, and he will do everything exactly as they tell him to do it."

Miller on his future:

Although he had committed to Ohio State last fall, Miller still attended the Buckeye summer camp a few weeks ago, and worked out like a player trying to earn an offer.

"I wanted the chance to work with Coach (Jim) Heacock at Ohio State, so I wanted to work out," he stressed. "He and I have a good relationship, and we've bonded as coach and player. I get along with (fellow commit) Kenny Hayes real well too, and we talk all the time. Things are going to be good for us at Ohio State."

"I'm 100% committed to Ohio State though, and nothing will change that," he exclaimed. "If the Ohio State coaches and my high school coach were against me visiting somewhere else, then I wouldn't do it, but they're cool with it. My mom wants me at Ohio State, so there's nothing to worry about (laughing)."
